Dodgers prospect Logan Boyer enjoying rotation work

Right-handed pitcher Logan Boyer is excited about his role in the High-A Great Lakes Loons rotation. Boyer, who spent three seasons at San Diego State University before turning pro, talks about his transition from college baseball to pro ball.

“It’s really about knowing yourself,” explained Boyer. “In college you’re told what to do in a sense, and in pro ball it’s not a direct command. In pro ball you’re allowed to give feedback on certain things more so than in college.”

Appearing in three games for the Loons in 2021, Boyer has recorded three strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in his 2.2 innings.

Currently using a fastball, a slider and a changeup in his repertoire, Boyer talks about how he incorporates in his breaking ball every outing.

“I like to mix in pitches here and there,” said Boyer. “My fastball is an out pitch. I also like to throw a slider occasionally, so they know it’s still there.”

And while Boyer has a solid understanding of pitching, it’s still relatively new to him, as he was a catcher in high school.

“Catching is always what I did growing up, but I definitely love pitching now,” stated Boyer. “You have a chance to make an impact on every play when you’re on the mound, and I love that.”

Another thing Boyer loves is being part of a team again for the first time since 2019.

“It’s great being a part of a team again,” said Boyer. “I haven’t been on a team in almost two years. It’s nice being able to contribute in wins, and even in losses at times, and just being part of a brotherhood again.”

Playing in Great Lakes isn’t a bad place to start your pro career either.

“I love Great Lakes,” stated Boyer. “There’s a good team vibe, great fans and just a good atmosphere for baseball here.”
