LOS ANGELES – A dramatic night in Los Angeles ended in heartbreak for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who surrendered a ninth-inning lead and ultimately fell to the Dodgers 4-3 in extra innings Tuesday.

Tuesday night’s matchup was a much slower, yet still exciting night after Monday’s high-scoring affair, as the D-Backs lost to the Dodgers by a score of 4-3.

Ryne Nelson is making the most of these opportunities with the D-Backs. He had a decent outing, as Nelson he only gave up one earned run on three hits in five innings pitched. The defense came to play on Tuesday night as well. Jordan Lawlar had a diving stop at third base in the bottom of the second inning that fired up Eugenio Suarez in the dugout.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also made an incredible sliding catch, robbing Mookie Betts of a hit that was going to drop in down the left field. Though Ryne Nelson then gave up back-to-back two-out doubles to Freddie Freeman and Will Smith, which gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Missed opportunities for Arizona:

After Marte broke up Yamamoto’s no hitter, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Josh Naylor both grounded out getting Marte to third, though Gabriel Moreno walked, Pavin Smith struck out to end the inning leaving runners stranded in a golden opportunity to tie the game up.

Another moment came in the top of the eighth inning when Perdomo hit a screamer into left field, getting a lead-off double. An untimely Eugenio Suárez infield pop-up and Corbin Carroll strikeout gave relief pitcher Alex Vesia two outs. Ketel Marte was then intentionally walked. Ben Casparius entered and, after a full count, was able to get Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to strike out, leaving the bases loaded.

Late game drama:

The ninth inning even had more drama as Gabriel Moreno continued his dominance over the Dodgers by tying the game up with a massive solo home run.

Kevin Ginkel was able to get out of the bottom of the ninth unharmed. Corbin Carroll then took matters into his own hands after going 0-4 and hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning.

Shelby Miller came in to close in the bottom of the 10th inning, and soon Tommy Edman hit a double that brought in a run. After walks to Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman and a Mookie Betts pop out in between, Miller hits Will Smith that ties the game up. Max Muncy then hits a sac fly to bring in the winning run.

The D-Backs and the Dodgers are now tied at a game a piece. They will face Los Angeles in the last game of the series on Wednesday night with first pitch at Dodger Stadium at 7:10 p.m. PT.
