Dodgers Rumors: Writer Proposes LA Trades Top Prospect and Tony Gonsolin for 3-Time MVP

The Angels have made it apparent that Mike Trout is not the untouchable piece that he has been in the past even indicating that they are open to trading the Hall of Fame centerfielder for the right price.

Bleacher Report has come out listing the early landing spots for the multi-MVP winner and the Dodgers land around the top.

Coming in at the no.2 selection right behind Trout's hometown team the Philadelphia Phillies, Trout could be moving across town.

Trout is not the player he used to be and injuries have slowly caught up to him in recent years, but he is still one of the best players in the MLB when healthy.

Tony Gonsolin is a piece expendable for the Dodgers as he will be recovering from Tommy John surgery and most likely won't pitch any of the 2024 season.

Dalton Rushing is a Dodgers top prospect but the catcher position is a little clogged with Will Smith, Austin Barnes already up in the MLB and Diego Cartaya still being a top piece for the organization.

In 2023, Trout has played 82 games hitting .263 with a .858 OPS and 18 home runs. Trout has not played for 140 or more games since 2018 but the numbers are still there for the 32-year old outfielder.

The question is, "Where would Trout play?"

James Outman has been an above average player for the Dodgers this year recording 3.0 WAR so far with a .248 average and a .789. What he has struggled with at the plate he has made up for on the defensive end.

According to Baseball Savant, Outman is in the 95th percentile in outfield Range or Outs Above Average and ranks 88th in Sprint Speed.

Trout remains in the 96th percentile in Sprint Speed but is in the 86th rank for Outs Above Average, Trout remains a world class athlete but playing centerfield takes a toll on the body and a position change could happen if he comes to Los Angeles.

Playing corner outfield could possibly be a little more forgiving on Trout's body and might allow him to play more games.

Either way, the Dodgers are focusing right now on having a lengthy postseason run with players like Jason Heyward, Outman, David Peralta, and Mookie Betts holding down the outfield. But the offseason could get pretty interesting.
