Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani Makes MLB History in Latest Milestone Moment

There's nobody like Shohei Ohtani.

Since debuting in 2018, the Japanese superstar has rewritten the record books numerous times, including last year when he became the first player in MLB history to top 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season.

Incredibly, the reigning NL MVP is having an even better season in his second year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, racing to a historic start.

After going 2-for-5 with two homers and six RBI in Thursday's 19-2 rout of the Athletics, Ohtani is batting .310/.409/.673 -- good for a 1.082 OPS and 203 OPS+ (both career-highs). He also leads MLB with 15 homers and 48 runs, propelling the Dodgers to the best record (29-15) in the majors.

Ohtani is having one of the best stretches in MLB history. According to OptaSTATS, he's the first MLB player with at least 15 homers, 10 steals, 45 runs, and 25 walks over a 42-game span, showcasing his elite power, speed, and plate discipline to start the year.

In his eighth MLB season, the 30-year-old slugger is still finding ways to improve at the plate and achieve unprecedented things on the diamond.

With Ohtani off to such a fantastic start, another 50/50 season isn't out of the question if he stays healthy. Even if he falls short, he could become the first player with multiple 40/40 seasons.

Ohtani is also an early favorite to win another MVP award, his fourth overall and third straight. If he wins the 2025 NL MVP award, Ohtani will join Barry Bonds as the only player in MLB history with three consecutive MVP awards and at least four total.

Given the way Ohtani's playing this year, he seems well on his way to another monster season, and perhaps a second straight World Series title as well.
