Dodgers Sign Former LA Draft Pick Part of Major Trade Deadline Deal in 2017
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers made yet another addition to their minor league roster.

According to the team's transaction log on MLB.com, the Dodgers have brought back their former 2015 draft pick in utility man Brendon Davis on a minor league deal.

Los Angeles drafted Davis in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Two years later, they ended up sending him to the Texas Rangers as a key piece in the trade deadline deal that brought back right-handed ace Yu Darvish.

Davis was part of the Rangers' minor league system for the next three seasons. After the 2020 minor league season that was cancelled due to COVID-19, Davis was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

He spent three seasons with the Halos and bounced around between the Tri-City Dust Devils, Rocket City Trash Pandas, and Salt Lake Bees. In 2022, he slashed .243/.333/.463 with a .797 OPS, six home runs, and 25 RBIs in 36 games with the Bees.

He spent the rest of the 2022 season with the Detroit Tigers, and in June 2023, he was released by the team.

In his minor league career, he has a .241 batting average, 81 home runs, 359 RBIs, 44 stolen basses and a .721 OPS in 790 games.

His major league career has left a lot to be desired, although he hasn't exactly gotten a fair opportunity. He has a career OPS of .472, and is 2-for-10 with three strikeouts.

Davis is now back where his career began, though, and he'll hope to unlock his potential with the team that first saw it in 2015.
