Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers’ superstar designated hitter, is currently leading MLB with 15 doubles this season and is ranked first in many categories. Ohtani also has 11 home runs on the season along with 27 RBI, 20 walks, and a .359 batting average, which is currently the best in MLB. He also leads MLB in hits with 56.

Shohei Ohtani Leads MLB With 14 Doubles

Ohtani Continues to Impress

Ohtani hit his league-leading 15th double of the season against the San Diego Padres on Friday. Despite the fact he is not pitching this season, his offense speaks for itself. Ohtani is also the MLB leader in OPS at 1.103. He’s been clutch and consistent, which is no surprise. Ohtani has also had more bets placed on him this season than any other MLB player. The Dodgers are currently first in the National League West with a 26-14 record and are 8-2 in their last 10 games played.

On May 6th, Ohtani continued to showcase how insanely good of a player he is. That day, Ohtani hit his fourth homer in three days. Talk about impressive. With his strikeout rate down to a career-low, Ohtani, amazingly, continues to excel at the age of 29. He pitches and hits at an elite level, but the fact that he makes such a huge impact, even without pitching, makes him one of the best. Ohtani showcased his greatness against the Toronto Blue Jays in a recent series. Fans booed him when the Dodgers came to Rogers Centre after his rumored imminent signing this offseason proved to be just that, a rumor. How did Ohtani respond? He hit a home run.

Shohei the Great

Ohtani is always a threat at the plate. So it makes sense that, at times, he will get walked. Last season, for example, the Blue Jays pitched to Ohtani, and he touched them up for a home run. Former Blue Jay Matt Chapman got upset at manager John Schneider for not intentionally walking the star. Now he is succeeding just as much at the plate after switching leagues. Everyone knew the Dodgers would stand out this season with a stacked lineup.

Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman being on the same team means one thing: they’re going to get the job done. No lead will ever be too big for them to come back from. Ohtani has shown remarkable consistency so far this season, and he’s continued to play good baseball in May. On May 5th, Ohtani stood out in their game against the Atlanta Braves by racking up three of the four Dodgers hits that occurred by the bottom of the sixth inning.
