Domingo German Yankees incident reportedly worse than first thought

It appears the midweek incident involving troubled New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German was worse than first thought. 

As shared by Bridget Hyland of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, Lindsey Adler of The Wall Street Journal reported that a seemingly intoxicated German "flipped over a couch in the clubhouse, smashed at least one television, and was held for a period of time in the facility’s 'nap room' while being monitored by team security" on Tuesday. 

German voluntarily entered inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse on Wednesday, and it was subsequently learned Thursday afternoon that he allegedly "grew belligerent while in the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium" and "was under the influence of alcohol and did not appear in control of his emotions" on Tuesday.

According to Adler's update, German had "confrontations with teammates and manager Aaron Boone" and also "verbally lashed out at Boone" until the starter was held in a sauna in an attempt to get him to sweat alcohol out of his system. From there, German was taken to the so-called "nap room." 

Boone protected his player's privacy while speaking with reporters following Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros.

"I’m not commenting on anything in regard to what did or didn’t happen with Domingo," Boone remarked, according to Ryan Glasspiegel and Zach Braziller of the New York Post. "Right now, he’s in a place where hopefully he’s getting the proper help and gets on the right path." 

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that German won't pitch for the club again this season. It's unclear if the 31-year-old will ever return to the Yankees' active roster or play for any other MLB club.

Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com reported Thursday that "a Latino reporter who knows German well told NJ Advance Media that the right-hander had stopped drinking for a while, but would have binges at times because 'he feels so much guilt about what happened'" regarding the domestic violence incident involving his partner that occurred in 2019 when he allegedly was intoxicated. German missed the entire pandemic-shortened 2020 season while serving a suspension related to the domestic matter.
