The Adirondack Thunder kicked off Stick It To Cancer Night on Friday Night as they looked to extend their win streak against the Maine Mariners. Coming into the game, both teams had been playing some good hockey as the Maine had won their last five games, all of which came on the road. As expected, Daniel Amesbury and Ty Cheveldayoff had the spotlight shining on them early on. Unfortunately for the Adirondack, a mix-up between those two would put the Thunder short-handed at the 11:16 mark. Maine took advantage as a shot from Nick Anderson found the back of the net at 12:35 to give the Mariners the only goal of the opening frame.

“They played pretty hard. They have some guys who can make it hurt when we take penalties and obviously their PP beat us pretty good today. We knew coming in we needed cool and keep our composure and stay out of the box and unfourtantley it went the other way”

In the second, things stayed chippy as Jacob Graves and Jackson Stewart dropped the gloves to get the festivities started at 3:23. Less than a minute later, Daniel Amesbury threw a hit on Liam Gorman, and then for the second time on the night, the linesmen would prevent Amesbury and Cheveldayoff from dropping the gloves but once again it would be the Thunder who would be short-handed after everything was settelled. Once again, the Mariners took advantage as a turnaround shot by Robert Cronin beat Tyler Brennan and doubled Maine’s lead. The parade to the penalty box would continue as just over five minutes later, Tag Bertuzzi took a double-minor, and Max Andreev gave the Mariners their third PP goal of the night. That would be it for the scoring in the second, but the party wasn’t over yet. Liam Hemstrom would jab for a loose puck, and Adirondack took exception as two players from each side went off for roughing. Tag Bertuzzi and Jackson Edward dropped the gloves with less than two minutes left to cap off a second period that saw 74 penalty minutes.

No, I don’t have an issue with it, he got punched in the face first. The guy went after him twice and punched him and he kept his cool and finally he punched him back and gave him the extra and for some reason the linesman came in and I’m not sure why the linesman came in, be a man and step up”

In the third, it wouldn’t get much better as Brooklyn Kalmikov got Maine’s fourth PP goal at 10:26, and less than three minutes later, Jacob Hudson scored the game’s only five-on-five goal. On the other end of the ice, Adirondack finished the night 0/6 on the PP. Brad Arvanitis made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season. Nick Anderson, Brooklyn Kalmikov, and Robert Cronin all had a goal and three assists on the night.
