After being traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Miami Marlins in January, pitcher Edward Cabrera seems to be loving his new team. So much so that Cabrera appeared to slight his former teammate when describing pitching for the Cubs, per Marquee Sports Network.

He said as much on Thursday after the Cubs defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7, completing a four-game sweep. He pitched 7.0 innings and struck out five as the starter.

“This is the best team I’ve been a part of … I haven’t been on a team like this before” Cabrera said in a postgame press conference on Thursday.

In his year with Chicago, Cabrera is now 2-0 with a 2.73 ERA and 22 strikeouts. Last year, Cabrera finished with an 8-7 record, 3.53 ERA, and 150 strikeouts. Cabrera had been with the Marlins from 2021 to 2025. In the process, he recorded career highs in strikeouts, 137.2 innings pitched, and 26 starts.

During that time, Cabrera began to develop a strong fastball and changeup pitch. On April 29, 2023, he recorded a career high of 12 strikeouts in a game against the Cubs. Towards the end, Cabrera endured battles with shoulder, finger, and elbow injuries. Additionally, he started to garner high walk totals.

In December 2025, the Marlins began trade talks with other teams.

As of Thursday, the Cubs are 16-9 and tied for first place in the National League Central with the Cincinnati Reds. With the win on Thursday, Chicago extends their winning streak to nine. On Friday, the Cubs will head to Los Angeles to begin a three-game series against the Dodgers.
