Emmanuel Rivera Traded to Miami Marlins
Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

After failing to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster, Emmanuel Rivera has been traded to the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.

Last season, which marked his third year in the major leagues, Rivera achieved a batting average of .261 over 86 games with Arizona. He primarily served as a third baseman but occasionally filled the role of designated hitter. During the postseason, Rivera managed a batting record of 4 hits in 17 at-bats.

The acquisition of Eugenio Suarez by the Diamondbacks during the offseason rendered Rivera’s position in the infield redundant.

The Marlins currently have Jonah Bride and Jake Burger alternating at third base, so Rivera will have compete for playing time. Miami has experienced a challenging start to the season, becoming the first team to accumulate five losses after their defeat by the Angels on Monday, which brought their record down to 0-5.
