Ex-Braves announcer Chip Caray among least favorable broadcast crews in MLB

For pretty much as long as I can remember, Chip Caray had been the voice of the Braves.

Coming from a lineage of legendary voices, Caray spanned multiple decades as the play-by-play for Atlanta. His father and grandfather were long-time voices of the Braves and Cardinals, respectively, which is where Chip currently resides — St. Louis.

Brandon Gaudin has taken over, and it seems fans have immediately become fond of the childhood Braves fan. Chip Caray always had to give his two cents during every special moment, regardless of how big of a play or stage. Gaudin, on the other hand, knows when to let the moment speak for itself.

A lot of Braves Country wasn’t sad to Caray go, and it seems nobody is fond of him. In Awful Announcing’s ranking of local broadcast crews voted on by readers, the Cardinals broadcast booth came in ranked 26th out of 30 teams.

Comments: The ballyhooed addition of Chip Caray to the Cardinals broadcast booth provided the team with a minimal bump this season. It’s possible the situation could improve next year in Caray’s second season back in St. Louis.

The Braves broadcast booth came in just outside of the top 10 but higher than any of the previous rankings with Caray as play-by-play announcer.

Caray left the Braves, who are now the best team in baseball, while the Cardinals are alongside the Mets as the most disappointing teams in the league. I never hated Caray like some fans, but Brandon Gaudin is more appealing and better at his job, in my opinion.
