Scott Boras is adding yet another Houston Astros star to his list of clients.

Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena has hired the baseball mega-agent Boras as his new representative, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported on Monday. Pena, who was previously represented by Beverly Hills Sports Council, is now making the switch to Boras and his Boras Corporation.

The decision by Pena comes in the middle of the career year that he is enjoying. Though Pena was a Gold Glover and the World Series MVP for the Astros in 2022, he has outdone that this season, especially at the plate. Pena is currently batting a career-high .326 to go along with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases through just 78 games for the AL-West leading Astros.

At 27 years old, Pena still has two years left of arbitration eligibility before he can become a free agent ahead of the 2028 MLB season. But he is certainly making the case with his superb play for the Astros to buy out his remaining arbitration years and sign him to a lucrative long-term contract extension.

As for Boras, 72, he already represents several big names on the Houston roster, namely, Jose Altuve, Lance McCullers Jr., and Hunter Brown. Of those players, Boras was able to hammer out long-term extensions with the Astros for two of them (Altuve and McCullers).

Boras does generally prefer to have his clients test the open market and has faced heavy criticism over his approach to free agency in recent MLB offseasons. Nevertheless though, Boras is the man that Pena will trust now that he is drastically improving his market value.
