Ex-Yankees Slugger Reportedly Signs With Mexican League Club

One former longtime member of the New York Yankees seems to have found a new home.

Former Yankees first baseman Greg Bird has spent most of his big league career in the minor leagues and now will be looking to bounce back with Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican League.

Bird was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and worked his way up the club's farm system and eventually made his big league debut in 2015. 

The veteran infielder spent parts of four seasons at the big league level with New York but hasn't appeared in a contest since 2019. He has spent most of his time in the minor leagues but hasn't appeared in a game since 2022. 

Bird spent the 2023 season playing for the Québec Capitales and Melbourne Aces. Overall, he crushed 12 home runs and drove in 44 runs in 51 games played. 

The 31-year-old will now look to get back on track in the Mexican League. If he can impress, it wouldn't be surprising to see him get another minor-league deal. In the minors, he has appeared in 551 games throughout his career and hit 87 home runs, and drove in 323 runs.

Bird has appeared in 186 games at the big league level and slugged 32 home runs and drove in 98 runs.

Hopefully, he can shine with his new club and work his way back up to the big leagues.
