The 2025 MLB season is a month in.

There are some surprises in each conference and some expected results.

Expected Results Of MLB Season So Far

The expected results are that the Dodgers are first in the MLB and have been the best team. Other expected results so far are that the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees have been excellent.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the best team in the league. The defending World Series Champions have the best batting lineup in the league. They have some issues with injuries to pitchers, but their batting lineup can outscore any team. Los Angeles will continue to be the best team in the league.

New York Mets

Juan Soto was the biggest acquisition in the offseason, and he has paid off for the Mets. The Mets are first in the NL East. They are in a tough division with the Phillies and Braves, but the Mets have the offense to carry them all season.

Chicago Cubs

While Soto was the biggest offseason move, Kyle Tucker was the second biggest move. He has helped the Cubs’ offense tremendously. Chicago currently has the best offense in the league. They are first in runs and batting average, second in on-base %, and third in home runs. This is a very dangerous Cubs team.

Chicago is first in the NL Central.

San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres have a very good all-around team. They can beat you with their offense or pitching. They are in a tough NL West, and while it is unlikely they can win the division with the Dodgers in their division, the Padres can make noise in the NL and make a deep playoff run.

Phildelphia Phillies

The Phillies are another team that has a very good offense and pitching staff. They will battle with the Mets for the NL East crown all season.

While the Dodgers are the best team in the league, the Phillies, Cubs, Padres, and Mets are all stout and can give them a run for their money in the NL.

New York Yankees

Despite losing Juan Soto in the offseason, the Yankees have not skipped a beat on offense. They are second in batting average and runs, and first in on-base %, home runs, and slugging %. The Bronx bombers are first in their division and should win the AL East, barring an injury to Aaron Judge.

Surprise Results Of MLB Season So Far

Some surprises so far are that the Detroit Tigers are first in the American League. The Seattle Mariners’ offense has been red hot, and they are currently second in the American League. The Athletics have been red hot, winning eight of their last 10 games. San Francisco is off to a very good start, having a 20-13 record in a tough NL West division. The Atlanta Braves are off to a poor start, despite having a talented offense. They need Ronald Acuna back.

Detroit Tigers

While the fact that Detroit has been good should not surprise many, the fact that they are first in the AL is a bit surprising. Their offense has taken a major step forward so far this season. It was a weakness last season, but their offense is thriving this season.

Detroit is eighth in batting average, slugging %, and on-base %, seventh in runs, and sixth in home runs.

Pitching has been great for Detroit.

It will be interesting to see if Detroit’s offense can keep this up. If so, the Tigers will challenge for first in the AL, as they have an excellent pitching staff.

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are second in the AL due to a hot offense. Their offense was a major weakness last season, but they are off to a much better start this season. They are 13th in batting average, second in on-base %, sixth in runs, fourth in home runs, and fifth in slugging %.

Julio Rodriguez has not even gotten off to a good start, but their offense is clicking.

Their offense is outperforming all expectations, but they will start to cool off.

Seattle’s offense is not like Detroit’s. Expect a cool-off sooner for Seattle’s offense, but their pitching could still keep Seattle in the running to win the AL West.

Athletics

The Athletics have been off to a good start this season. They have been one of the hottest teams in the league, winning eight of their last 10 games.

It is a good start, but it seems unsustainable given their lack of pitching.

Their new home stadium is a hitter-friendly park, which means their offense may continue to play well, but their pitching is a weakness.

The Athletics will cool down sooner.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants have been a major surprise this season. They have a 20-13 record as of May 3.

The Giants are in a similar spot to the Athletics in that this start seems unsustainable. They do not have a good offense, and their pitching staff is average, which gets a lot of help by playing half their games in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the MLB.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are off to a poor start. They are 14-17 as of May 3. Their offense on paper is stacked, but they have been just average so far this season. Ronald Acuna is missed as the leadoff hitter for Atlanta. Alex Verdugo and Michael Harris have not cut it in the leadoff spot.

Acuna sets the offense for success. He should return by June, which will help this offense tremendously.

Expect the Braves to start playing better, especially offensively, when Acuna returns.
