Former Cardinals Starter Picks up First Win of the Season
USA Today Sports

The Colorado Rockies picked up their fifth win in a row after defeating division rival San Diego Padres 5-4. First baseman Elehuris Montero was the unsung hero in last night’s win. He went two for four, driving in three runs to help this Colorado team pick up momentum and confidence. Dakota Hudson was on the mound for the Rockies last night. After picking up six losses in his first seven starts of the season, Hudson finally picked up his first win of the season. The Rockies starter picked up a much-needed win, and one that should regroup his confidence, for the next outing. Colorado is now 13-28 after their fifth win in a row. While they still sit at the bottom of their division, this win streak has shown the Rockies are not the worst team in baseball.

Dakota Hudson Picks Up First Win

During his first win of the season, Rockies starter Dakota Hudson pitched five and two third innings. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher allowed three runs on three hits, and three walks while striking out three Padres in the win. In eight starts, Hudson now has a 1-6 record. Through 39 and two third innings pitched he’s allowed 27 runs on 42 hits. The right-handed pitcher has recorded 30 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.69. This winning effort was certainly one of the better-quality starts Hudson has put up this season.

Through seven seasons in the Majors with both the Cardinals, and the Rockies, Hudson has a career record of 38-26. He has a career ERA of 4.02 with 338 strikeouts. Through 122 games played and 87 starts, the 29-year-old pitcher has not recorded a complete game or even a shutout. Hopefully, after picking up his first win of the season, the Rockies starter can keep his sharp laser focus, and perhaps have a better outing than the one from last night.

It will be important for Hudson to pick up his slack from the early part of this season. Even now, their win streak has put a lot of people, and teams on notice, showing luck has finally turned in the direction of the Rockies. If he can have a solid performance through each outing, this Rockies team can move in a better direction, than the position everyone thought they would be in just a month ago.
