Former Mets GM Jared Porter on ineligible list through 2022

It was back in January when the New York Mets fired disgraced general manager Jared Porter for reportedly sending explicit, lewd and unrequested text messages and images to a female reporter in 2016 when he was employed by the Chicago Cubs.

Porter's tenure with the Mets lasted slightly more than one month, and he won't be back in MLB anytime soon.

Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Wednesday that Porter has been placed on the ineligible list through at least the completion of the 2022 season following a league investigation. Porter can apply for reinstatement after that campaign.

"My office has completed its investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct by Jared Porter," Manfred said in a prepared statement. "Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Porter violated MLB’s policies, and that placement on the Ineligible List is warranted. We are committed to providing an appropriate work environment consistent with our values for all those involved in our game."

Porter originally promised to bring a "cultural shift" to the Mets upon his hiring. The club promoted assistant GM Zack Scott to the role of acting general manager later in January.
