The Chicago White Sox have continued to struggle in 2025, falling 4-3 to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night despite entering the 9th inning with a 3-2 lead.
The Southsiders' Tuesday loss came due to a brutal defensive blunder by former No. 8 prospect Chase Meidroth, who was part of the return in the deal that sent Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox.
Meidroth settled under a pop up by Drew Waters, and the ball deflected off his glove and then his head. Following Meidroth's blunder, two singles by Freddy Fermin and Jonathan India would set up Bobby Witt Jr, who singled to win the game for Kansas City.
Meidroth's error was the latest in a rough stretch for the White Sox, who fell to 10-26 and are on pace for 117 losses. That would mark only a marginal improvement from their historically bad 2024 season.
Meidroth was put on notice by fans, many of who are tired of the White Sox finding new ways to lose.
⚾️Chicago White Sox just found a jaw-dropping way to lose. The former top prospect has showed promise as a top-of-the-order hitter, entering Tuesday's game with a solid .396 on-base percentage. Meidroth has only played 15 career games up to this point, and many were quick to cut him some slack.
For the record, I can handle Chase Meidroth messing up on a pop fly. That's called a mistake, and it happens. What I can't handle is the fact that this team has no reliever who can consistently get the last 3 outs of a close game and that the front office isn't trying to win now.

If I’m Chase Meidroth, you gotta let that one go, he’s still contributed a lot for the team, people make mistakes all the time. https://t.co/BfE57gdbnI

White Sox manager Will Venable defended the young prospect following the loss. “This guy is a gamer. He’s going to turn the page and go out there tomorrow and give us everything he’s got,” Venable said. “We’ll talk to him, make sure he’s in a good spot, but he will be fine.”
The White Sox have room for improvement all around the roster, and will likely be sellers at the deadline for the third straight year.
