On Sunday night, former Major League manager Jim Leyland was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame, while former manager Lou Piniella came one vote short.
The voting was done by the Contemporary Era Committee:

The Hall of Fame voting total: Jim Leyland (15 votes, 93.8%); Lou Piniella (11 votes, 68.8%); Bill White (10 votes, 62.5%); Cito Gaston, Davey Johnson, Ed Montague, Hank Peters and Joe West each received less than five votes.

Leyland won the World Series with the 1997 Marlins and got to the World Series twice with the Tigers.
As for Piniella, he spent 23 years as a manager with the Yankees, Reds, Mariners, Rays and Cubs. He went 1,835-1,713.
He managed the Yankees for three years, the Reds for three, the Mariners for 10, the Rays for three and the Cubs for four. In his career, he won a World Series with the Reds in 1990. He also took the Mariners to the playoffs in four different seasons. The Cubs got their twice under his direction.
During his career, he managed some of the best players in baseball history like Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez and Alex Rodriguez.
Larry Stone, longtime writer at the Seattle Times, posted the following on social media:
I feel terrible for Lou Piniella, passed over for the Hall of Fame by the Contemporary Baseball Era committee for the second time. And once again, he fell one vote short. Lou is a Hall of Famer. I hope he gets in one day. I know he’s devastated.
