Former Tennessee Vols star Ben Joyce, who has touched 105 MPH, reveals the top speed he thinks he could throw a baseball

Los Angeles Angels RHP Ben Joyce, a former Tennessee Vols standout, has touched 105 MPH on the radar gun multiple times during his career.

Joyce, a Knoxville native who was a third round selection by the Angels in the 2022 MLB Draft, first touched 105 MPH during his time at Tennessee. He has also reached 105 MPH in the big leagues.

Earlier this week, Joyce joined Jomboy Media's Chris Rose on The Chris Rose Rotation and he revealed that he thinks he can reach a higher number on the radar gun than 105 MPH.

Joyce told Rose that he thinks he could get up to 107 MPH, but he doesn't necessarily think that 110 MPH is realistic.

"I do, I really do. It's weird to say, but I don't see why not," said Joyce when asked if he can throw 107 MPH.

"I don't know about that (throwing 110 MPH), we'll start with 107 and work from there," continued Joyce.

With everyone showing up to the ballpark anxious to see how hard Joyce is going to throw, it would be understandable if the former Vol feels pressure to perform. But Joyce says that's not the case at all.

"I just go out there and do my thing. I feel like I can do it every time I go out there," said Joyce when asked if he feels pressure to throw hard. "When I'm out on the mound, I'm just kind of blocking everything else out...when I'm out there I just want to win and I want to compete, so I'm not really even thinking about that (the radar gun) in the moment."

Hitting a baseball is easily one of the hardest things to consistently do in pro sports. Trying to hit 105 MPH from 60 feet and six inches away seems nearly impossible.

Joyce has pitched in 43 MLB games so far in his career. He has a 2.82 ERA in those 43 games, which means most hitters that have faced him likely agree that hitting 105 MPH is nearly impossible.

If the former Tennessee flamethrower gets to 107 MPH, it might be game over for the rest of the league.
