If the Tigers want to go from rising threat to real October monster, the answer might be a familiar face.
Eugenio Suarez. The same one who debuted with Detroit back in 2014 is now one of the most productive hitters in the league. And according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel, he’s also the most productive player likely to be traded before the deadline.
The insiders give Suarez a 90 percent chance of being moved. He’s hit 33 home runs this season, trailing only Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judge. His isolated power and wRC+ are sitting near career highs, even after turning 34 last week. He’s not just available—he’s peaking.
The Diamondbacks may keep some of their expiring contracts, but Suarez is different. Arizona has Jordan Lawlar raking in Triple-A and ready to step in at third base. That opens the door for a move.
For Detroit, the fit is clear. Suarez brings playoff experience, high-impact power, and the kind of presence that can settle a young, aggressive lineup. His defense has dipped, but ESPN calls him “an acceptable defender at third base”—and if you're trying to win a World Series, that’s a trade-off you make.
Passan and McDaniel list the Tigers as one of the top landing spots. The team has the prospect depth and the win-now urgency. With Cy Young-level pitching and a surging core, a move like this sends a message.
Suarez isn’t a dark horse. He’s the top power bat on the board. And if Detroit makes the call, it could be the move that brings the Tigers all the way back.
