Former Yankees Hero Joba Chamberlain ‘Scared’ About Difficult Aaron Judge Decision

As exciting as the thought of Aaron Judge rejoining the New York Yankees’ lineup sounds, his impending return only creates another issue: how do the Yankees get Judge and Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup?

Judge went on the IL with an elbow injury, and there is no projected timetable for him to play the outfield again. Theoretically speaking, that shouldn’t be an issue because the Yankees could simply put Judge at DH and move Stanton back into a corner outfield spot.

The problem there is that Stanton hasn’t played the outfield since 2023. He’s exclusively a full-time DH at this point in his career, and understandably so given his history of lower-body and soft tissue injuries.

Fans aren’t the only ones wondering what manager Aaron Boone will do to keep both sluggers in the lineup. Ex-Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain said he’s “scared” to see what Boone decides.

"I don’t even know what to say anymore,” Chamberlain wrote following Monday’s 8-5 loss. “Everyone holding on ok, just checking on y’all.”

Boone already made one decision, confirming that Stanton will sit against the Rangers on Tuesday and Wednesday because the Yankees don’t want him playing the turf at Globe Life Park.

Stanton has been one of the Yankees’ few bright spots of late, batting .270 with 10 homers, 28 RBIs, and a .875 OPS since returning from the IL in late June. He’s already tallied 1.0 bWAR after posting a cumulative 0.7 bWAR from 2022-24.

Would the Yankees really push Stanton back into right field? For his part, Stanton told Yankees reporter Randy Miller that he’s fine playing the field again.

“I'm (throwing) on target,” said Stanton, who missed the first 70 games with tennis elbow in both arms. “I have good timing. It’s a line drive (throw). That’s all that matters. I have to get back out there seeing it, but I should be all right.”
