Four Options Listed As Candidates to Fix Seattle Mariners' Offensive Issues

The Seattle Mariners were not supposed to be as good as they have been to this point in the season. They enter play Saturday with a 22-15 record, good enough for the American League West lead, and the fourth-best win percentage in the AL as a whole.

The offense has been a surprising force for the team this year, after the front office received loads of criticism from media personalities and the fan base for failing to make any notable additions over the offseason.

The unit has posted a .749 OPS through their first 37 games, the seventh-best mark in MLB to this point.

While the offense on the whole has been better than expected, there are still areas in need of improvement. One key area is the production the team is receiving from first base.

Rowdy Tellez and Donovan Solano have split time at the position this year, and it has not gone well. The two hitters have posted just a .551 OPS to this point, ranking 29th in MLB, ahead of only the San Francisco Giants.

A recent article from Zac Hereth of Seattle Sports suggested some options to alleviate the problems in four players the team could trade for. Hereth suggested either Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies , Nathaniel Lowe of the Washington Nationals, or one of the Ryans from the Baltimore Orioles, in Mountcastle or O'Hearn.

The best choice would be Bohm from the Phillies. He plays third base for his current team, and while he is not great defensively at the position, he has improved over the last few years, and sliding to first base would make him even better with the glove.

Offensively, he will not provide much home run power, but he is one of the best in the sport at driving the ball gap-to-gap when he is on, and he knocked 44 doubles last year.

Having his bat in the lineup for the Mariners would be a major boon to their offensive production and an even bigger asset for the team at first base.
