Francisco Lindor moves into fourth all-time in home runs by shortstops

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been among the best at his position over his 11-year career and continues to rack up the accolades. Now he's climbing the all-time home run charts with more in reach.

The 2024 season was among the best in Lindor's career. He batted .273/.344/.500 (141 OPS+) with 39 doubles, 33 home runs, and 29 stolen bases. Per Baseball Reference's version of the metric, he was worth 6.9 WAR. He finished second in NL MVP voting behind Shohei Ohtani.

Impressively, Lindor has been off to an even better start this season. Through 57 games, he's hitting .283/.356/.483 (137 OPS+) with a team-leading 12 home runs.

New York completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday at Citi Field, winning 5-3. The game was notable, as MLB.com's David Adler writes, as it marked the first time that the Mets' Big 3 of Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Juan Soto all homered in the same game.

This was also the 28th time that Alonso and Lindor have homered in the same game, passing Darryl Strawberry and Howard Johnson for the Mets franchise record.

Lindor's fifth-inning solo homer broke a tied game, but also was the 261st home run of his long career, moving him into fourth all-time in home runs by a shortstop. He had been tied with longtime Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

Not only is Lindor now fourth on the all-time list, but it's entirely possible he climbs further before the season ends. He is just 10 shy of third place on the list: Hanley Ramirez had 271.

Cal Ripken Jr. (431) and Miguel Tejada (307) rank first and second.

Lindor hit 138 home runs over his six years in Cleveland. He's added 122 in the five seasons since being traded to New York.
