Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced X-rays on Freddie Freeman’s left wrist came back negative and he’s considered day-to-day moving forward.

“Obviously when you see him walk off the field like that, very concerning,” Roberts said. “But the X-rays were negative, so that’s a positive. I think just putting him in the day-to-day category is probably where we’re at right now.”

Freeman was hit by an 88 mph sinker on the inside of his left wrist and immediately came out of the game. Freeman didn’t show any overt signs of pain, but slowly walked toward the dugout and had a brief conversation with manager Roberts before heading into the clubhouse.

Hyeseong Kim entered as a pinch-runner for Freeman, and he remained in the game at second base. That moved Miguel Rojas over to first base.

Freeman went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts prior to coming out of the game. He’s among several Dodgers who have been in an extended slump this season, but Roberts recently expressed confidence Freeman would soon turn the corner.

Freeman previously suffered a fractured left wrist during the 2017 season that caused him to miss 10 weeks. The Dodgers’ initial announcement on Sunday was Freeman exited the game due to a left wrist contusion.

Impact of Freddie Freeman’s wrist injury

Considering the current state of their roster and Freeman’s wrist injury, it’s plausible that an opportunity exists for Dalton Rushing at first base. Particularly with Enrique Hernández’s recovery from left elbow inflammation going slower than anticipated.

If the Dodgers need to rely on Rushing for any sort of extended period, that would likely lead to recalling Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A Oklahoma City to assume duties as the backup catcher role.

Max Muncy’s return, which could come in a couple weeks, could also help fill the void a potential first base but in turn create a need a third base.

The Dodgers play three more games in a row before an off day in their schedule.
