Friars Lose Pitcher to White Sox on Waiver Claim
USA TODAY Sports

Days after being designated for assignment, the White Sox have claimed right-hander Brent Honeywell off waivers from the Padres.

Honeywell was cut to create space on the roster following the trade deadline on Tuesday.

The journeyman reliever has only a handful of major league appearances under his belt over his career and made the most of his time in San Diego this season. He appeared in a career-high 36 games this season, putting together a 4.05 ERA over 46.2 innings. Advanced metrics weren't as kind to Honeywell but he played a key role for the Friars in his time with the team.

Innings eater.

The White Sox will be the fourth organization he's played for in his 10 year pro career. He was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft. Injuries have derailed his career up to this point, having undergone four elbow surgeries since 2018.
