San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean is hoping for the best for Andrew McCutchen.
Sabean decided to trade McCutchen to the Yankees on Thursday night, but he did so reluctantly. He said that the Giants have a hard time “surrendering” and acknowledging they’re out of the playoff race. Once they were, he traded McCutchen for two prospects.
Now Sabean says he hopes the former NL MVP wins a ring with the Yanks.
Brian Sabean said he was happy that Giants found a contender for McCutchen: “I hope he wins a ring. He’s invested a lot in the game. He’s the real deal. We need more McCutchens in baseball.”

The Giants acquired McCutchen in a January trade, hoping that he and Evan Longoria could help turn the Giants into contenders. Things didn’t work out the way they wanted as injuries to several key players like Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey and Longoria hurt the team. The Giants mostly hovered around .500 this season and have finally conceded.
McCutchen has played in the playoffs three times during his career but never advanced beyond the divisional round. Being with the Yankees may give him best chance of doing so.
