Giants Make Landen Roupp Decision With 5 Games Left

The San Francisco Giants have shut down right-hander Landen Roupp for the remainder of the 2026 season, ending his first full year in the rotation with five games left.

Roupp has made 29 starts this season and thrown a team-high 155 innings. The Giants decided not to add to his workload as the regular season winds down, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The decision closes out a season in which Roupp established himself as an important part of San Francisco’s rotation. He finished with a 9-14 record, a 4.01 ERA and 143 strikeouts across 155 innings.

Roupp’s final start came Sept. 14 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four over 4.1 innings in a 2-1 loss.

The 155 innings represent a substantial workload for Roupp, who accumulated 156.2 innings across his first two major league seasons. His 2026 campaign also marked the first time he made more than 25 starts in a season.

The Giants are dealing with a much larger pitching shortage as they finish the season. Logan Webb, Robbie Ray and Justin Verlander are among the experienced starters who have spent time on the injured list, while rookie Blade Tidwell recently left a start with elbow discomfort.

San Francisco has also lost significant pieces from its lineup. First baseman Bryce Eldridge and outfielder Jung Hoo Lee were placed on the injured list this week, leaving the Giants with a heavily reshaped roster for their final games.

With Roupp now finished for the year, the Giants will turn to other arms for the remainder of their schedule. His shutdown also gives the organization an opportunity to preserve a young starter who just completed his busiest professional season.
