DENVER — The San Francisco Giants have likely lost a key member of the rotation for the final month of the 2025 season, a blow for a team hoping to finish above .500.
Right-hander Landen Roupp, who made 22 starts this season for San Francisco, will likely miss the rest of the regular season thanks to left knee inflammation that landed him on the injured list on Aug. 22.
Giants manager Bob Melvin made the announcement about Roupp's health before San Francisco started a six-game, seven-day road trip in Colorado against the Rockies.
"I think he's probably done," Melvin said of Roupp. "We certainly don't want to rush that back. He probably wants to get back, but we'll see how it goes and when he starts throwing and getting on a mound again. I think it is maybe just as important to get him off a mound and throw and kind of know going into the offseason. So, as of right now, probably not."
This marks Roupp's second time on the injured list this season as he missed time earlier in August with right elbow inflammation.
He made two starts after returning from his elbow issues, but was not effective in either, giving up a combined 10 hits and 10 runs (including three home runs) in just 5.1 innings in what would eventually be losses to the Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres.
Those two starts were jarring differences from a July where he posted a 1.80 ERA in four outings covering 20.0 innings. That followed a first half of the season where Roupp logged a combined 3.27 ERA through his first 19 starts.
The progress made by Roupp this season will likely have to be put on hold for 2026, putting a disappointing end to a campaign where the 26-year-old earned the fifth starter job in spring training.
