The San Francisco Giants made a roster decision prior to the start of a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs.
The Giants have recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Walker from Triple-A Sacramento.
The 30-year-old has pitched for San Francisco throughout the last four seasons and has had great major league success before the 2026 season.
In 2026, Walker struggled mightily through 16 games. In those games, Walker pitch 15 1/3 innings to the tune of a 6.46 ERA with 14 strikeouts and three blown saves in six opportunities.
Walker lost both the designated closer role and his major league roster spot, being optioned to Triple-A on May 10 before being recalled a month later.

• RHP Ryan Walker recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.
• RHP Carson Seymour optioned to Triple-A Sacramento postgame on Wednesday.
Walker pitched very well in his short time in the minors. In 8 appearances, he pitched to a 1.93 ERA with a save, two holds and seven strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings. His month spent in Sacramento seemed to reset his confidence as he comes back to San Francisco to try and save a struggling bullpen that holds a 4.43 ERA.
The right-hander's best season came in 2024 where he pitched to a 1.91 ERA in 76 appearances. During that breakout season, Walker secured 21 holds and 10 saves to go along with 99 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. The Giants hope that Walker can return to this dominant form once again.
As a corresponding move, the Giants optioned right-handed pitcher Carson Seymour to Triple-A Sacramento.
Seymour pitched in two games for the major league team this season. The 27-year-old pitched to a 14.54 ERA with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Seymour was sent down after his most recent outing against the Washington Nationals which saw him give up four earned runs in 1 1/3 innings.
The Giants have the 22nd worst pitching staff in the major leagues per ERA (4.55). A large part of this struggle is due to their bullpen and their inability to keep games within reach. The Giants bullpen has blown eight saves in 21 opportunities, holding a save percentage just over 60 percent.
San Francisco currently sits in fourth place in the National League West division with a 28-41 record. The team had high aspirations going into this season and their first full season with Rafael Devers. In a tough division, the Giants postseason hopes are running out quickly. They hope that Walker will be able to stabilize the bullpen and spark a comeback for this team.
