Giants Manager States The Obvious Following Recent Sweep

It was certainly a weekend to forget for the San Francisco Giants to open the second half of the 2022 MLB season.

Much like the Boston Red Sox, the Giants were swept to start the second half, only this time, it was a four-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Almost nothing went right for the Giants out at Dodger Stadium.

After the loss on Sunday which secured a Dodger sweep, Giants manager Gabe Kapler made a very blunt statement about the state of his team, saying that the way they played was unacceptable.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle tweeted Kapler’s response.

Kapler on the Dodgers’ sweep: “Really frustrating, a level of play that it's just not going to be acceptable for us. there's no other way to classify it except as not good enough.”

Kapler Keeps It Real

This is about as blunt as you can get if you’re a manager.

It’s something fans want to see from a manager when a team is struggling.

A manager has to acknowledge when his team isn’t playing good baseball, and that is the case right now for the Giants.

Kapler kept it simple in response and was brutally honest.

He was correct in pointing out that the way his ballclub played over the weekend isn’t good enough and won’t suffice if they want to reach the postseason for the second straight year.

Luckily for the Giants, they only sit two games back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the third NL Wild Card spot, but they now find themselves well out of contention in the NL West, as the Dodgers continue to trample every team they come across.

It would be silly for the Giants to sell given how close they are in the standings, but they’ll need to kick it up a notch if they want a shot at the postseason.
