Giants place 3B Evan Longoria on 10-day IL with hamstring strain

San Francisco Giants' third baseman Evan Longoria is headed back to the injured list for the third time this season.

The Giants placed the three-time All-Star on the IL with a hamstring strain on Sunday. Longoria exited Saturday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with the Giants called a "mild hamstring strain."

Longoria has had a tough time with injuries this season. He missed the first 30 games of 2022 with a finger injury and 10 games earlier this month dealing with a left oblique strain.

"Off, on, off on," Longoria said. "It's really all I've known this year. It's frustrating....That's really all I can say. I don't know what else I can do. I feel like I do everything to prepare myself and hydrate and sleep. The body just doesn't want to work the way it used to."

In his fifth season with the Giants, Longoria is batting .243/.331/.459 with nine home runs and 19 RBI in 49 games.

The Giants recalled reliever Gregory Santos from Triple-A Sacramento to fill Longoria's spot on the active roster.

Santos pitched in one major league game for the Giants in May this season. He retired all five batters he faced over 1.2 innings over work.

The 21-year-old was 0-1 with a 3.70 ERA in 23 games with Sacramento.
