Cleveland Guardians rookie Cooper Ingle made a mistake during Tuesday’s game against the Texas Rangers that he will likely never make again.
In a 2-2 ball game in the 7th inning with starter Tanner Bibee still on the mound and one out and a runner on second base, Alejandro Osuna hit a fly ball to Ingle in left field. Ingle made the routine catch without trouble, and it appeared that Bibee was one out away from escaping the jam and finishing seven strong innings on the mound. Instead, however, Ingle turned to the crowd and threw the ball to the fans, as he clearly thought he had just recorded the third out of the inning.
The runner on second base was ultimately rewarded home, as it was a two-base error by Ingle. It remains to be seen if the mistake will end up costing the Guardians the game, but the Rangers hold a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning as of this story’s writing.

It was an unfortunate moment for Ingle, who just made his MLB debut less than one week ago. He displayed offensive prowess in the minor leagues, and the Guardians need an offensive boost, especially with Jose Ramirez injured at the moment. The team is hopeful that Ingle will be able to produce offensively.
They will obviously also need him to avoid making the kind of error he did on Tuesday. Ingle is not the first player to make that mistake, though. It has happened more than you may think throughout the history of the league.
For Ingle, he will simply need to move on and leave it in the past. He is still a talented prospect with a bright future at the MLB level.
