The Cleveland Guardians are hoping to make another postseason run in 2026. While they have stars such as Jose Ramirez on the roster, Cleveland relies on roster depth as well. However, they demoted an outfielder who has helped to provide some of that depth on Thursday. Outfielder George Valera has been optioned to Triple-A ahead of Cleveland’s upcoming series against the Athletics.
Valera, 25, has appeared in 13 games with Cleveland in 2026. He has hit .216/.237/.297 during that span. In his MLB career, Valera has played in a total of 29 games, hitting .218/.291/.359.
Steven Kwan leads the outfield in center field. Chase DeLauter has performed well in the outfield as well, while players such as Angel Martinez and Daniel Schneemann have made impacts. Valera could end up returning to the big leagues at some point later this season. The Guardians certainly appreciate having depth on the roster.
Overall, it has been an up and down season for Cleveland so far in 2026. The Guardians currently lead the American League Central despite being just 16-16 overall. They clearly play in a winnable division, but Cleveland wants to find more all-around consistency.
The Guardians have been a consistent contender in recent years, but winning their first World Series since 1948 is the goal.
Cleveland has an off day on Thursday. The ball club will begin a three-game series against the Athletics on Friday night. The contest will be the first of a seven-game road trip.
First pitch for the Athletics and Guardians series on Friday night is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST.
