The Cleveland Guardians designated outfielder Stuart Fairchild for assignment ahead of Friday’s game against the Seattle Mariners, the team announced. Catcher/outfielder Cooper Ingle was promoted to the big league ball club in a corresponding move.

Fairchild, 30, hit just .158/.407/.158 across 14 games played with Cleveland. He did not record an extra-base hit, but Fairchild did walk seven times.

The outfielder made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fairchild has since spent time with the Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves and the Guardians. He is capable of providing outfield depth and could draw interest from opposing ball clubs.

Ingle, Cleveland’s No. 3 overall prospect, is set to make his MLB debut. The Guardians need all of the offensive help they can get with Jose Ramirez injured, so perhaps Ingle will provide the team with a boost.

Ingle, 24, has recorded a slash line of .284/.416/.551 across 51 games played at Triple-A this season. He has recorded 12 home runs as well. Ingle is set to DH against the Mariners and he will bat fifth in the lineup in his big league debut on Friday.

The Guardians could look to make trades for offensive help as well. Ramirez, Chase DeLauter and Angel Martinez are among the position players who are injured at the moment. They would love to have players who are already on the roster step up and make an impact, though.

The 42-39 Guardians will host the Mariners in the first contest of a three-game series on Friday night at 7:10 PM EST.
