Actor and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda became famous after the success of the musical "Hamilton." While Miranda is busy with other roles, he has a particular project in the pipeline.
In an interview with Jennifer Mercedes of La Chica Desportes, Miranda announced that he is working on a movie honoring the Molina brothers. Catchers Yadier Molina, Bengie Molina and Jose Molina are from Miranda's father's hometown — Vega Alta, Puerto Rico.
The Molina brothers have a special place in baseball history. They are the only trio of brothers to each win a World Series. Jose won a pair of rings with the 2002 Angels with his brother Bengie and the 2009 Yankees. Yadier won a pair of rings in 2006 and 2011 as part of his storied career with the Cardinals.
A potential future Hall of Famer, Yadier had the best career of the trio. He was a 10-time All-Star, posting a career .277/.327/.399 batting line in his 8554 plate appearances, hitting 176 homers and 408 doubles. He is one of just 10 catchers (60+% career games behind the plate) with over 2000 hits in his career, seven of which are enshrined in Cooperstown.
While Yadier was a solid offensive catcher, he shone defensively. He was a nine-time Gold Glove winner behind the plate and took home four Platinum Gloves as the best defensive player in the National League. He ranks second all-time with 163 runs saved behind the plate, trailing only Ivan Rodriguez.
A two-time Gold Glove winner, Bengie had a solid 13-year career, primarily with the Angels and Giants. He produced a .274/.307/.411 batting line in his 5159 plate appearances, hitting 144 homers and 217 doubles.
Valued for his defense and respectable power, Jose spent parts of 15 years in the majors, primarily as a backup. He produced a .233/.282/.327 batting line in his 2,795 plate appearances, hitting 39 homers and 117 doubles.
The Molina brothers are baseball legends in Puerto Rico. Their story may be coming to a movie theatre in the future.
