Honoring Henry Aaron: The Henry Louis Aaron Fund Supports Youth Baseball & Diversity in Baseball’s Front Offices

The passing of Henry Louis Aaron in January 2021 left a void in the world of baseball, but his legacy continues to inspire future generations of players and fans alike. In honor of Hank Aaron’s unwavering commitment to the game and his lifelong advocacy for equality, the Atlanta Braves, Major League Baseball, and the Major League Baseball Players Association came together to establish the Henry Louis Aaron Fund (HLAF).

The HLAF was created with two major goals: to expand access and equity in youth baseball and softball, and to increase opportunities for diverse representation in baseball’s front offices. Hank Aaron was not only known for his 755 career home runs but for his efforts in breaking racial barriers, paving the way for countless African American players, and advocating for social justice throughout his life. The HLAF carries forward Aaron’s mission by supporting initiatives that remove financial and logistical barriers, allowing kids from underrepresented communities to play the game Aaron loved.

Additionally, the Fund aims to increase diversity in leadership roles within baseball. By focusing on fostering more inclusive opportunities in the sport’s front offices, the HLAF hopes to inspire future generations of diverse leaders to pursue careers in management, coaching, and executive positions.
