The Milwaukee Brewers entered Monday unsure if three-time All-Star Christian Yelich would be able to play in their opening game against the Cincinnati Reds. During the Brewers’ win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, Yelich was hit in the hand by a pitch. While he stayed in the game initially, he was pulled shortly after because he could not grab his bat.

After the game, Yelich went in for an x-ray, and even said himself he was “50/50 going in there” because the swelling as so great. Fortunately, the results were negative. However, he said he was not sure if he would miss any time. It depended on how long it took for the swelling to go down.

Thankfully, it took less than 24 hours.

Christian Yelich Slugged the Milwaukee Brewers to Victory Over the Cincinnati Reds

Over the course of his career, especially during his time with the Brewers, Yelich has seen great success when facing the Reds. In 127 games played against Cincinnati entering play on Monday, the 2018 NL MVP had a .280 batting average, 26 home runs, 84 RBI, and 83 runs scored against them.

Since 2018, his first season with Milwaukee, he was hitting .298 with 110 hits, 23 home runs, and 69 RBI (and 69 runs) against the Reds.

And he added to those totals on Monday night.

With the score tied 2-2 in top of the third inning, Yelich blasted a home run off the batter’s eye in centerfield, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. It ended up being the winning run.

Officially, Yelich’s 13th home run of the season traveled 417 feet. When told by Fan Duel’s Sophia Minnaert of the projected distance, the Brewers’ star quipped, “I’ll take the over.”

Clearly, he believes the ball went farther than 417 feet, and anyone who was watching where the ball landed would have to agree.

Game Notes for the Milwaukee Brewers
