After another successful year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024, Mookie Betts is going through a slump in 2025. The 8-time All-Star has struggled heavily at the plate. Recently, he opened up about his form this year and expressed that he was out of “answers” for this.
Betts did not have the best of starts this season as he went down with a mysterious illness. The 3-time World Series winner would miss the Dodgers’ trip to Japan.
He would later lose almost 20 pounds of weight as he continued to deal with this illness. Since then, Betts has not looked at his best. The Dodgers’ shortstop has struggled in the batter’s box. The team has tried several things to get him back in form.
A few days ago, manager Dave Roberts moved him into the leadoff spot and pushed Shohei Ohtani as the 2nd batter. When this move failed, Roberts moved him back to his 2nd hitter spot and put Ohtani in front of him again.
While speaking with the reporters in Tampa, the 32-year-old expressed that he has done everything he can and claimed that it’s “up to God at this point.”
I’ve done everything possible. It’s just kind of the same result. I’m out of answers. I’ve done everything I can do. It’s up to God at this point.

In the final game of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Betts went 0-for-3 while having one walk. This saw his batting average drop to .233 for the season.
Mookie Betts is having one of the worst stretches of his MLB career at the moment. The Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop has been having a hard time at the plate. On Monday, Dodgers fans gave him a standing ovation in support and to help him overcome this difficult phase.
As he walked up to the plate on Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals, several fans at Dodger Stadium would rise from their seats and applaud him. Check out the video regarding this below:

This was something the Philadelphia Phillies fans did for Trea Turner in 2023 when he was going through a similar phase. The ovation from them did help Turner turn his season around as he finished that campaign with 26 home runs, 76 RBIs, while batting with an average of .266.
Speaking for Betts, the sweet gesture from the Dodgers fans failed to make an impact on Monday. Despite his best efforts, the former American League MVP struggled again and went 0-for-4 which dropped his average further to .231.
In the last 7 games, Betts is 4-for-28 with just 2 RBIs and 4 strikeouts. In this phase, he has batted with a .143 average while having a slugging percentage of just .179.
As Mookie Betts continues to struggle at the plate, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been trying to find ways to get him out of this slump. One thing the team has tried is to move his batting position. After he was placed as the No.2 hitter again, manager Dave Roberts said that he will not bat below this spot.
While speaking with the reporters on Monday, the Dodgers manager claimed that he will not allow him to go any lower than 2nd. Though the team is looking at alternatives, Roberts pointed out that he will continue to believe in him and trust him to get out of this slump.
I just think the more I think about it, you know, Mookie is somebody that I’m not going to hit lower door. I just feel that you weigh the options, the alternatives, and things like that. I’m going to continue to believe in him and trust that he’s the best option.
Dave Roberts told the reporters
Dave Roberts said he’s not going to move Mookie Betts down in the order beyond the No. 2 spot, despite his extended struggles.

“I’m going to continue to believe in him and trust that he’s the best option.”
So for now, Betts is likely going to continue to bat at the No.2 spot between Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman . If things do not change, then Roberts could be forced to change his tactics and push him down in the lineup.
