Another day, another trip to the injured list for Cincinnati Reds players.
Noelvi Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 5, with pain in his side. Rece Hinds was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
There is no reason the Reds’ roster shouldn’t be sponsored by the Red Cross.
Marte joins Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Jeimer Candelario, and Austin Hays, who is eligible to come off the list on Friday.
Marte was hitting .370 going into the doubleheader on April 30th, but his average dropped to .294 after going 3-for-18 in his last five games. He has four doubles, a triple, three home runs, and 17 RBI on the season.
Hinds hit .281 in 33 games at Louisville with seven doubles, a triple, eight home runs, and 32 RBI.
The 24-year-old played 80 games at third base in 2021 before the Reds turned him into an outfielder. Marte was the starting third baseman before the recent injury.
Hinds made a splash last season when he was promoted. In his first eight big league games, he hit .400 with four doubles, a triple, five home runs, and 11 RBI.
Then reality hit. In the last 16 games he played, Hinds was 0-for16, dropping his average to .261.
