Insider Reveals What Position Alex Bregman Will Play For Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox shocked the world on Wednesday night after they signed Houston Astros slugger Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract with an opt-out after each season.

Bregman was the No. 2 pick in the 2015 MLB Draft and spent nine seasons in the majors with Houston, appearing in two All-Star games and winning two World Series titles.

Red Sox skipper Alex Cora was the Astors bench coach in 2017 when Bregman was in his first full season with the club.

While Bregman has played most of his professional career at third base, it doesn't sound like he will be playing that position at Fenway Park this summer.

ESPN's Jeff Passan stated, "The expectation is Alex Bregman will play second base for Boston."

The Red Sox have settled in at third base with Rafael Devers, but there was some rumbling that, with the addition of Bregman, he could have become the full-time designated hitter.

It sounds like Devers will stay at third, which means Boston's No. 1 prospect, Kristian Campbell, a second baseman, will be behind Bregman this year.

Passan also stated, "Even though the Red Sox have top prospect Kristian Campbell coming, they saw Bregman having enough of an impact that they offered $40 million a year — with deferrals — to make the deal happen."

Boston seems to be going all in for this season. After watching their biggest rival, the New York Yankees, play in the World Series, they knew roster upgrades were needed.
