Corey Seager’s two-homer game overshadowed Jared Triolo’s three-run homer as the Pittsburgh Pirates were defeated 4-3 by the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Monday night.
Seager connected on his first home run of the game with one out in the first, a solo shot off of Luis Ortiz. Two innings later, Seager hit a three-run shot just over the fence in right-center to put the Rangers (58-68) ahead 4-0.
After Seager’s second home run, Ortiz (5-4) settled in and went six innings. He allowed four runs on five hits with one walk and matched his career-high with seven strikeouts.
Jared Triolo brought the Pirates (58-66) within a run with a three-run homer down the left field line. After going close to two months without hitting a home run, Triolo has two home runs over his last three games.

Following starting pitcher Dane Dunning, Jose Ureña (4-8) threw four-scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Texas and Kirby Yates recorded his 22nd save of the season in the ninth.
Seager’s three-run home run after ambushing Ortiz on the first pitch of the at-bat in the third proved to be the difference.
It’s an easy choice — Seager. It was his third game this season with two home runs and second of the month. Seager has nine home runs in August, tied with Jake Burger for the most in baseball.
Joey Bart finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored and extended his on-base streak to 15 games. It’s the second-longest streak by a Pirates’ player this season behind Bryan Reynolds (25 games).
Mitch Keller (10-7, 3.95 ERA) will be on the mound for the Pirates on Tuesday night. Cody Bradford (4-0, 3.50 ERA) will start for the Rangers. First pitch: 8:05 ET.
