In wake of the Achilles injury to Ronald Acuña Jr., which the team is currently calling Achilles inflammation , the Braves have added Jarred Kelenic to the active roster. Hopefully, this means Acuña avoided the ultimate disaster, but we’ll need further confirmation before fully letting out a sigh of relief.
Kelenic returns to the Braves for the first time since late April after he was optioned following a dreadful start to the season, in which he hit just .167 with two home runs over 23 games. He’s been horrendous ever since the Braves took a chance on him last offseason, and nothing he’s done with the Stripers since his demotion suggests he can turn it around.
In 71 games in Gwinnett this season, Kelenic is hitting just .217 with a .612 OPS. This is likely his final opportunity to prove he deserves to stay in the organization past this season.
