Jazz Chisholm Announces He's Ready for 2025

Jazz Chisholm, Jr. may not have to report to spring training for a few weeks, but the New York Yankees second baseman isn't waiting around. The dynamic infielder announced that vacation was over on Feb.3.

"We back to Work," Chisholm wrote over a video of him in the batting cages on his Instagram stories.

Chisholm will play a significant role for the Yankees this season, his first full year in the Bronx.

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone revealed last month that he prefers that Chisholm, who learned to play third base on the fly last season, return to his natural second base this season. He will take over for Gleyber Torres, who signed a free-agent deal with the Detroit Tigers.

But Chisholm wasn't acquired for his glove; it's his bat and speed that the Yankees are looking forward to this season.

Acquired from the Marlins at the 2024 trade deadline, Chisholm hit .273/.325/.500 with a .835 OPS, 11 home runs, and 18 stolen bases in 46 games for the Yankees last season. He went 5-for-21 with a home run and four stolen bases in the World Series.

Chisholm may also assume the leadoff position following the departure of slugger Juan Soto. Last month, Boone mentioned on WFAN that Chisholm and top prospect Jasson Dominguez are the frontrunners for the leadoff role. Although Boone said he sees Dominguez's potential for this position, Chisholm has a track record. He has predominantly hit in the leadoff spot throughout his career.

While he announced he was back to work just this week, Chisholm has been keeping in shape throughout the winter. He posted a video of himself working out with Dominic Smith the day the Yankees announced they had signed the former New York Mets prospect to a minor league deal. He also spent a few days working out with the Clemson baseball team after the equipment company he represents, Absolutely Ridiculous, announced an agreement with the college team.
