Jazz Chisholm Had Words for Ex-Yankees Teammate on Wednesday

Jazz Chisholm is currently playing his first full season for the New York Yankees after being traded from the Miami Marlins during last year’s trade deadline.

Chisholm has embraced his new opportunity donning the pinstripes in his sixth major league season, returning to his All-Star form while playing for the club.

Chisholm’s willingness to shift to third base after Oswaldo Cabrera went down—having opened the season at second base—underscored his team-first mentality in New York.

During Tuesday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Reds in a 5-4 loss, Chisholm was ejected by home-plate umpire Mark Wegner after arguing a called third strike.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said “there’s a pretty strong case” Chisholm shouldn’t have been tossed and suggested Reds catcher Jose Trevino drew the umpire's attention to the infielder at third base who was frustrated with himself rather than Wegner in the bottom half of the inning, per Bryan Hoch.

In Wednesday’s 7-1 victory, Chisholm homered and shared an exchange with his former teammate when he reached home plate. When asked what he told Trevino, Chisholm said, “He was the one who kind of provoked the umpire, so I just told him that was for last night.”

Chisholm and Trevino played together on the 2024 Yankees squad that made it all the way to the World Series.

Despite a brief stint on the injured list with a right oblique strain, Chisholm has delivered across 49 games. He has 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 10 stolen bases while playing solid defense in his hot corner role.

With New York’s lead in the AL East trimmed to one game by the surging Tampa Bay Rays, Chisholm will be an integral part of the team's success.
