New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a different dynamic to the New York Yankees when they acquired him from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline last season. They were a team headlined by power hitting with little speed or athleticism to boot before the 27-year-old arrived.
However, Chisholm added both of those latter traits in spades, especially the athleticism. The 5-foot-11-inch, 184-pounder played third base despite having no prior experience there and recorded a .943 fielding percentage over 46 games. He also slashed .273/.325/.500 with 18 stolen bases.
Chisholm played exclusively at second base before getting hurt this season, but he sounded off about returning to third when he's done rehabbing, via NJ.com's Max Goodman.
"[Boone] told me that he wanted me at third base. He really wanted me at third base," he said. "I’m a team guy, I’m here to win a ring, I’m not here to fight over positions."
He also said that he'll only need one or two more rehab games before coming back to the big leagues.

On returning to third base: "[Boone] told me that he wanted me at 3B. He really wanted me at 3B. I’m a team guy, I’m here to win a ring, I’m not here to fight over positions."
Chisholm played second, shortstop, and outfield with the Marlins, but never third. He has 196 career games at second, 192 in center, 46 at short, and 45 at third.
Chisholm struggled at the plate before going down this season, as he's slashing .181/.304/.410 with seven homers and 17 RBI through 30 games. However, that hasn't stopped New York's momentum, as it has a seven-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays atop the AL East.
The Yankees start a road series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
