Jed Hoyer Reveals Cubs Trade Deadline Plans With Questions Mounting

Despite the Chicago Cubs playing excellent baseball to start this season, sitting in first place in the National League Central, they've been dealing with multiple injuries throughout the year.

The Cubs got a much-needed series win, defeating the below-average Miami Marlins in two of three. After losing to the Marlins in the first game of the three-game set, it was important for Chicago to bounce back the way it did.

Chicago didn’t have to use too much of their bullpen throughout the series against one of the worst teams in the majors.

That's an important part for Jed Hoyer, who mentioned that the team's bullpen help will likely come from external options in the next few months.

“There’s no question that the bullpen is going to be aided by outside help, whether that’s big transactions or small,” Hoyer said on the “Mully and Haugh Show.” “I think there’s no question we’re going to continue to add guys.”

He understands that it'll likely be a month away if he wants to make a big move. Teams have no reason to trade some of their top assets right now, and with what relievers have gone for in recent years, no struggling squad will want to give up on a star reliever for a cheap price.

“Thinking about big external transactions, that’s really at least a month away, if not more,” Hoyer told The Score. “I think we’ve got to focus on smaller transactions and we got to focus on getting healthy and have our own guys be effective.”
