John Schneider Reveals Kevin Gausman Plan After Nationals Series

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed the club will keep its rotation on schedule following the series against the Washington Nationals , meaning Kevin Gausman is lined up to start Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The update came from Mitch Bannon, who reported Schneider said the Blue Jays will "stay on turn" with their current rotation despite continued trade speculation surrounding the veteran right-hander.

With the Monday trade deadline approaching, Gausman's next outing will come as Toronto continues to field interest from contenders. Rather than adjusting the rotation, the Blue Jays will move forward with Dylan Cease starting Friday, Gausman on Saturday and Max Scherzer closing the series on Sunday.

Keeping Gausman on schedule suggests Toronto has no immediate plans to alter its pitching plans despite its position near the bottom of the American League East. The veteran has remained one of the club's most reliable starters this season while drawing attention from teams seeking rotation help before the deadline.

Gausman enters Saturday's scheduled start with a 4-10 record, a 4.51 ERA, 123 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP. While his traditional numbers have dipped this season, the veteran remains one of Toronto's most experienced starters and continues to draw attention as a potential trade candidate ahead of Monday's deadline.

Toronto enters the Cardinals series at 50-59, sitting last in the AL East and 14 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays. The club has increasingly been viewed as a potential seller as the deadline approaches.

Whether Gausman remains with the Blue Jays beyond next week remains to be seen, but Schneider made it clear the right-hander's immediate focus is his scheduled start Saturday. Any decision involving his future will be left to the front office as trade discussions continue.
