After hearing former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz call Oakland Athletics pitcher Mike Fiers a “snitch” for blowing the whistle on the Houston Astros’ cheating scandal, former big-league slugger Jose Canseco stepped in and came to Fiers’ defense.
Canseco, a six-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, tweeted support for Fiers and his decision to alert MLB about the Astros’ cheating scheme in 2017.
The 55-year-old Canseco, who hit 462 career homers, also worked in a shot at Ortiz, hinting at Ortiz playing through the steroid era, which included a past positive test for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.
Mike fiers the truth is never wrong no matter when you say it…its never to late for the truth…big papi I am a fan since the first time I met you in Minnesota but get off this kid ,you made it through the ped era…

Fiers has received support from his manager and even MLB for coming forward and blowing the whistle on the Astros. After years of whispers regarding the Astros cheating, it wasn’t until Fiers stepped forward that MLB launched its investigation.
While some in the baseball community likely share Ortiz’s feelings toward Fiers, a majority of current players have shown far greater scorn toward Astros players for cheating.
Fiers doesn’t regret what he did, and while it has certainly caused a lot of drama in baseball, it finally brought to light what his peers suspected for years.
