Veteran left-hander Jose Quintana kept his strong season rolling Wednesday night, tossing a quality start in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Quintana gave up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out seven without a walk, marking his highest strikeout total of the season and showcasing precise control.
The 35-year-old left-hander raised his record to 9 wins and 4 losses with a 3.57 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 17 starts in 2025. His strong effort powered Milwaukee to its sixth consecutive win and 70th of the season, marking the quickest the team has ever reached that milestone by doing it in just 114 games.
“It was all about settling in and trusting my stuff,” Quintana told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy in an interview. “After that first inning, I just focused on keeping the ball down and mixing speeds.”

Quintana stumbled early, allowing three singles in the opening inning that brought home a run for Atlanta. He quickly regrouped, retiring nine of the next ten batters and blanking the Braves through the fourth. He later gave up solo runs in the fifth and sixth but contained the threat and kept the Brewers in control throughout his outing.
The Brewers’ offense stepped up in the fifth to give Quintana some cushion. Isaac Collins and Christian Yelich led off the inning with consecutive hits, setting the stage for Andrew Vaughn to bring in a run with a groundout. Two batters later, Blake Perkins launched a two-run homer to right field, stretching Milwaukee’s lead to 5 to 1 and forcing the Braves to pull starter Spencer Strider.
Andrew Vaughn and Blake Perkins powered the offense, each hitting a home run and combining for three RBIs. Vaughn pushed his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games and is batting .435 with five home runs and 16 RBIs during that run. Perkins also doubled alongside his homer, helping drive Milwaukee’s attack.
Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe each worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, while Trevor Megill secured his 26th save despite surrendering a solo homer to Michael Harris II in the ninth. Milwaukee’s bullpen once again delivered in the late innings, helping the team improve to a league-best 33-24 record away from home.
With nine wins already this season, Quintana is tracking to break his career high of 13 victories, a total he’s reached three times over his 12-year career.
The Brewers (70-44) pushed their win streak to seven and have now claimed 12 of their last 13, tightening their hold on the NL Central. They’ve dominated on the road, winning 24 of their last 30 away games. Quintana is lined up to take the mound next week at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates, looking to stay sharp as Milwaukee charges toward October.
