Recap
A Bryan Reynolds’ two-run home run ignited a comeback attempt, and Josh Palacios celebrated his 28th birthday with a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning in the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park on Sunday.
With automatic runner Jared Triolo standing at second, Palacios, who turned 28 years old on Sunday, homered to right field off of Andrew Vasquez (2-1) to give the Pirates the win, their fourth in their last six games.
After Alec Bohm hit a two-run homer off of Rich Hill in the fourth, Reynolds returned the favor with a two-run blast of his own in the sixth to tie the game 2-all.
Reynolds’ blast came after Connor Joe led off the sixth inning with a base hit off of Seranthony Dominguez, the Pirates’ first hit of the game. Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez tossed five no-hit innings prior to being lifted for Dominguez.
Joe scored in the seventh inning on a base hit from Reynolds plus an error charged to center fielder Johan Rojas, and Nick Gonzales tied the game at 4-all with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
In what was potentially his last start with the Pirates (47-58) with the approaching trade deadline, Hill held the Phillies to two runs in five innings while striking out seven.
Key Moment
In the top of the tenth, the Phillies (56-49) had runners on second and third with nobody out. Trea Turner skied one to right and Henry Davis threw a missile home. Endy Rodriguez caught the throw and fired to second after Bohm wandered a bit too far off. Gonzales, at second base, cut it off and threw out Bryce Harper attempting to come home for the go-ahead run.Star of the Game
Bohm finished the game with a home run, two hits, three RBIs and a run scored.
